Mahatma Gandhi..❤️
Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was an Indian activist. He was the leader of the Indian Independence Movement against British colonial rule. Gandhi in India is known as the father of the nation.
Gandhi was born in India on October 2, 1869 and grew up in a Hindu family. After his education he received legal training at the Inner Temple in London. He first worked as a lawyer in South Africa during the struggle of the resident Indian community for civil rights.
After his return to India in 1915, he organized agricultural workers, peasants and urban workers to protest against high land taxes and discrimination. Gandhi, who took over the leadership of the Indian National Congress in 1921, led a nationwide movement for various social causes and to achieve Swaraj or self-government.
Gandhi led the Indians to challenge the salt tax imposed by Britain in 1930 with the 400 km Dandi Salt March. He was imprisoned for several years on several occasions in South Africa and India. He lived humbly in a self-sufficient residential community and wore traditional Indian dotis and shawls. He ate a simple vegetarian diet.
Gandhi was assassinated on January 30, 1948 by three bullets to his chest. Gandhi's birthday, October 2, is celebrated as the Gandhi Jayanti, a national holiday in India, and International Non-Violence Day around the world.
